SERIOUSLY FAST FOOD IS GROSS… A PUBLIC MESSAGE HOW FAST FOOD THEOLOGY SUCKS. October 3, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — candkhill @ 6:31 pm

Have you ever wonder why people hate fast food? Seriously out of the millions of people in the world, I have only met a few brave enough to say that they LOVED fast food. After much prayer and inner struggle with fast food I realized why I hate it so. Fast food is very, very not needed. It is based on luxury and want, rather than on need. Sure you can lie to yourself and say, “I’m too busy for anything else.”(Trust me I have said that lie a lot!) Or, “I haven’t got money for anything else.” Look if you buy $1.00 burger (who buys one burger, I’m giving the most over weighted country in the world the benefit of the doubt…no?) for three meals for seven days that equals out to be a whopping total of $21.00, no tax was included in this week of “tasty treats”. You can buy something better for you it just takes a little bit more time to prepare. If you buy bread, meat, cheese, milk, and fruit, heck you can through in juice and cereal for 20 bucks, you get more variety, more flavor, and better bowel movements. You feel better about yourself when you eat right and exercise, you look better, your sex life is better (if you married), your life is just better. Fast food cannot compare to the joys of eating right and exercising. Fast food chains know they are not needed so they have dollar menus or “specials” to make money because they are desperate for your business. They need you.

Following Jesus has sadly followed the road of fast food. You go in and find “spiritual food” and immediately we want it. So we say a prayer or we get dunked right then. People today follow Jesus without counting the calories or seeing if he is better food. It seems churches today, or in my case campus ministries, are more concerned about the quantity of the people coming in rather than the quality of lifestyle these people are truly living for Christ. This is demonic. It makes me sick and it should do two things to you…. Hack you off because this note is about you, or open your eyes to what Satan is trying to do to Jesus’ Bride today.

I look around at most colleges and see Christian people and organizations standing in front of the cafeterias, dorms, or crowded areas and beg people to “check their ministry out”. “Just come and see and you won’t be disappointed!” or, “Hey, we are doing and we would love for you to be there.” This is pathetic, Christians stop validating ourselves, our ministries, and our lives by the attendance the world has to offer. It makes Jesus seem like he is in need and Jesus isn’t needy for attention of the world….. You are. There once was a guy in the bible. He had a lot, ruled a lot, and was young. And better yet he wanted to go to heaven…hold on ladies he is a dreamboat rich, young, and “spiritual” clearly he would be popular at Christian College. However, he had a problem he needed to be needed. He was desperate for attention of the world to the point it cost him his salvation. And when he walked away did Jesus say, “I’m just joking,” or “well you don’t have to sell everything to follow me.” Or better yet, “Just say a prayer and you can follow me forever!” No that’s what Satan says. Jesus did what most College Ministers are trained not to do, Jesus let him go. Rather chase dead ends, that right CHASE A DEAD END, Jesus took the twelve and taught them not to be like that guy.

Jesus is not desperate for attention. Jesus isn’t looking for people to validate himself, or promote his business, or to look at his new dollar menu. Jesus is looking to give life. Paul says it like this. While we were still sinners Jesus dies for us. Peter knows firsthand that Jesus didn’t come to be liked, instead he came to serve.

FAST FOOD IS GROSS So why are we now at this moment trying to validate our ministries, lives, families with people and not Jesus? If we just water down the message of Jesus, like McDonald’s waters down the size of their burgers (HAVE YOU SEEN THE SIZE OF THOSE SMALL THINGS?), and get people to attend, then our ministries will be successful. Stop. Stop trying to put more people in your doors and feed the people that are already in them. Maybe what the people in your ministry have always known is a fast food meal and they don’t even know the true food that Jesus has to offer. Heck, make sure they know who Jesus is. Stop making the message of Jesus look so needy. Start repenting. And let’s eat some better food.

Kanye West needs Grace. September 16, 2009

watch the video and tell me what you guys think?  I know what Kayne did was appalling, if you don’t know go pick up a magazine and look.  I was angry, embarrassed and hurt for Swift.  Then i started to think can love fix this, Jesus could this guy need you too? I wanted vengeance and violence, but could this guy really need grace, love, and hope? Then i watched this interview. I saw a different side of West that I hadnt known.  He does need Jesus. And he needs us to pray for him. No it doesn’t excuse any actions on his part, what he did was wrong, but Jesus didn’t come to judge, he came to save. So why was I casting stones? As you can see, this interview really gripped me… tell me what you think.

Harmonious Opposites Living together Harmoniously July 1, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — candkhill @ 11:02 pm

Freedom and obedience are usually two terms that are contradictory to each other. Obedience to God is to be submissive to him in all things. Freedom to God is to be free to do all things. Opposites right? There is a problem though. God is not contradictory. Everything makes sense to God, there are no mysteries that we can conjure that can make him go, “Huh, good one, Hill,” or, “ I have never thought of that one, Mr. President.” God isn’t surprised by the hungry in Africa, the swine-flu, or cancer. Or that men struggle with pornography or women struggle with submissiveness. God isn’t surprised.

Where does all of this fit in with obedience and freedom? God knew we would have a problem comprehending obedience and freedom. God knew that theologians and atheists would juxtapose and manipulate the two to hide the sins of the speaker. God knows. After reading and prayer, obedience and freedom are complements to each other, not enemies.

The ultimate expression of Freedom is obedience to the one who gives us freedom. The ultimate expression of Obedience is freedom to the one who gives us obedience. The two coexist beautifully with each other, harmonious in the wonder that is Jesus our Lord. And one without the other is dangerous and can lead one to condemnation. Don’t believe me?

Go into a bar, football game, paintball field, chat rooms, and look for people who need a friend. Look for the lonely, hungry, thirsty and join them in life. You are free to do whatever you want with that person have a beer, eat any kinds of food, talk about any subject, play darts, cheer for the their team, or play a video game with someone halfway across the world. If you only have the freedom then this can lead to drunkenness, gluttony, lusts, pride, living in an alternate reality, and death.

Obedience to God without freedom sadly leads to rules and regulation end up prohibiting the Spirit to do what Christ came to do, to give us life and live it to the fullest (Jhn 10:10). If you only exercise obedience with no freedom then you end up a pew sitter thinking that if you just attend an extra Wednesday or Sunday then God will have pity on you and let you into heaven. This train of thought limits God’s mercy to only those who “deserve” it. While forgetting that while everyone was still sinners, Christ died for us (Rmn 8:23). Obedience without freedom breeds slavery.

Obedience and Freedom have to coexist harmoniously together. Freedom to eat anything with the obedience to God not to go to food when you have problems. The freedom to drink anything without letting the drinks controls you. The only thing that should control you is God, which ironically gives us the freedom to choose. Choose to be obedient to God, with the knowledge that this obedience gives us ultimate freedom.ORDER AND CHAOS

Pruning July 1, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — candkhill @ 11:01 pm

Pruning.

Every branch of mine that does not bear fruit he takes away and every branch that does not bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

Our church has gone through a lot of changes. Changes in structure, leadership changes, the eldership, and changes in pretty much everything. Everything changes. Your body constantly changes, grows, expands, contracts. Your mind is always changing. At a micro-level, cells are always being produced and dying. Your thoughts change; you thought one way one an issue until you thought another way on that issue. Your Spirit I thought never changed, until the day my world was rocked.
Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever right? No, he is bigger than yesterday, today, and forever. Our God is beyond forever. He is bigger than it, eats it for breakfast. If Jesus was the same to me then he would always and still be the guy with the blonde hair, blue eyes, that had a light bulb behind his head at all times. He changes to me, now true that Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever, but the real truth is that we never really figured out who Jesus is anyhow. His ways are mysterious. He pruned me.
Kels and I have a hibiscus plant in our house. It is pretty. Well it was pretty. It got too big. The plant was so big that it was killing itself literally. Ana, a very wise woman in the ways of gardening, told her that it needed to be pruned to survive. You see the plant grows limbs that just take up space, nutrients, and its life force. They are non-productive parts of the plant that just suck the life it’s of the rest of the plant. It is a cancer-limb so to speak. Ana showed her the correct way to prune the plant. Now the plant has a fighting chance to thrive.
God does the same. He takes our lives, church, spirit and prunes them. At first it hurts but then because of the pruning we realize we are a lot lighter. We can grow into a beautiful productive plant, which bears fruit for all to eat. This works spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. God works. Have you been pruned lately? If you haven’t, how do you know which part of the plant are you? Productive? Or a Cancer-limb? Isn’t it cool you choose.Pruning

pain July 1, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — candkhill @ 10:56 pm

Why is following God So hard? I can imagine most of the prophets and apostles screaming this phrase to the heavens, look the sky half-expecting someone to answer. I have asked this. If this is living water then why are people not thirsty for it? It is as if some people have forgone the living bread and went straight to the McDonald’s dollar menu. For why? Why did God give me a heart for people that seem to have no place for him? Why? Why do people not have a place for God?
You know i have met people whom i did not wish to know and they end up being a great brother in Christ. And on the same note, I have met people that i have longed to get to know and they end up being a person i wished i have never met. Why did God make this Riddle so hard? Why do these people were so many masks?
God knows the heart. He sees your true actions for what they really are. A guy asked me today, “what is the unforgivable sin?” I told him to reject God after you see him in his glory. Now i think another is a unrepentant heart. A heart that longs for the world is a heart that longs for cancer. A heart that wishes to follow the world is a heart that likes pain. I know that seems contradictory because of my opening, but at least our pain brings repentance. Worldly pain brings pain. I weep for the hard of heart they will feel so much pain, and blame everyone but the person inflicting it.

Walking With a Lion July 1, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — candkhill @ 10:51 pm

God makes it easy to follow him. I could never imagine the fear of a boy John watching his hero die before his eyes, in the most graphic and inhumane way imaginable. I could not fathom how David, a teenager inexperienced in warfare, could pick a fight with a man crafted, bronzed, and breed for killing people. I could not imagine how Peter could leave his livelihood to follow a man, whom was homeless, spoke in riddles, and loved the broken people.
I guess to the worldly it doesn’t make sense, but not much does? It doesn’t make sense to me to kill a baby because had one night of meaningless passion. You had sex now there are consequences for that. What the man may not be the one you want to marry? Then don’t have sex, killing isn’t an option. Deal with it. The world would say that telling people that in order to be beautiful you must look like a woman on a magazine. Who was airbrushed to look like that because you see she isn’t beautiful enough to even portray herself. Or my personal favorite, the woman will hate me; a man gets a one a show with about 20 different women to see who his true love is. He will find true love at the cost of these women’s’ emotions, life and sanity. Truthfully a man dated 20 woman at a time is called a whore; but when you add a camera crew it is called “Love” and “Good Television”.
Quit validating yourself by what other man and woman think. John, David, and Peter didn’t care what others thought of them. They saw they truth and they wept for it. They saw the truth and they fought for it. They saw the truth and they left everything to get it. They had the balls to do what we have always long to, they were themselves and didn’t care what their, wives, friends, elders, deacons, and fellow humans thought and followed the truth. God is better than this mediocre job; God is bigger than anyone man. John understood three days later that even in times when things are going so bad, God works them for so much good. They followed the truth even when it didn’t make sense.
The world has told me over and over that I am not good enough. This means that it doesn’t trust me. The World doesn’t trust me so therefore it will turn me something that it can trust, itself. I think that this is so because when I am me I am unpredictable, so it changes me into something that is predictable. Sin is predictable. TV shows, glamour magazines, and abortions are predictable. You know who is also unpredictable? God. That’s why the world doesn’t trust him. God told me once, “That you are my workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Follow in that wisdom. Don’t follow the world that is trying to turn you and persuade you to become something else. Trust the one who is saying, “you are mine”. I quit following those trying to change me into something that I am not. I quit following the predictable and unstable. I will walk in the good works that God created his craftsmanship to do. I will walk with the lion.

Thank God For Trajedy. December 17, 2008

lemonsI went to the Doctor on Thursday for a normal check up. You know I haven’t been to the Doctor in 5 maybe 6 years, never really had a reason too. Except for the occasional cold or sinus problem, there wasn’t a need. I felt fine. This doctor’s visit was different. I went because I have begun to wheeze again. I had severe asthma when I was a kid; it seemed to be creeping back. So I went for a inhaler. Turns out it may be more serious; long story short they are doing test for hyperglycemia and diabetes. Kind of scary stuff, but that wasn’t as scary as what I just earned about myself.

I have been praying non-stop about this almost every hour on the hour; because of these sicknesses and for my wife, for the ministry and for my friends, for my family, for my church, it seemed to not end with what I was willing and wanting to pray for, I even prayed for my enemies; praying that they never have to go through this with anyone, praying that God actually blesses those people who I don’t think are even doing his will; I mean weird prayers. Then I began to be angry with God for having the nerve to put me through this. A funny thing happened He got mad.

This is the most I have prayed in a very long time. I’m right now, always there at the throne room of God talking to him about things and praying. Praying for things that I don’t even know who they are and why I’m praying, who really prays for the person in the car beside you at the red light anyways? This is the most I have prayed in a long time. Let’s think about this logically, I am angry at God for making me spend time with him and bless people I have never met before, I’m a jerk hole. God simply told me, that’s right God speaks to people, if you didn’t go to the doctor and if you didn’t get the bad report you would have prayed for the Doctor, banker, candlestick maker (jk), that preacher who I don’t see eye to eye with, that man in the red car, that woman with the cell phone, that man with the little boy, that crazy guy that had the guts to say what everyone was thinking; the list goes on.

Jesus asked god to take this cup away, but not my will your will. Without the crucifixion there is no resurrection. Without the blindness of Saul there is no insight from Paul. Without the adultery of David there is no Solomon, and without the loneliness of Elijah there would be no Elisha. Our trials suck, but they are the pivot in showing us the nature of God. HE takes chaos and makes the universe, he takes a dead man and raises him, he takes a whore and makes her a priest to the nation, see John 4. God works through and thrives in impossible situations. It is what makes him God. Tragedy is what made me pray. Tragedy is what God always uses to show the world that he is God and we are not. Thank God for Tragedy.
